The Courage and Spark transformational team coaching process

The Courage and Spark approach stands as one of the most comprehensive team development processes available today and one of the very few that is informed by vertical development thinking, and grounded in a Gestalt-based methodology. The defining features of this next-generation approach to team coaching can be found in its ambition and methodology. Whilst most team development processes are one-off events or short-term interventions that improve teams at their current level of development, the Courage and Spark process is designed to support teams that need to be operating at a later stage of development to match the contextual challenges and complexities they face.

This transformational approach is also a good fit for organisations working from Teal operating principles and practices, or those with that aspiration.

Key features of our vertical approach to team development

The process is designed to impact at three levels: strategic, relational, and developmental. It expands strategic thinking capacity, transforms relational connection, and accelerates developmental progression, at both the individual and team levels.

A small team of vertically-trained Courage and Spark coaches work with the client team over an extended period of time delivering a series of team effectiveness sessions whilst also coaching the individual team members. Facilitated sessions between pairs or small sub-groups can be designed in when targeted conflict resolution is required.

What people have said about their Courage and Spark® team development experience

“Leading a team of highly successful, high-achieving people is a demanding task. I hired Courage and Spark to help me really create a team, a high performance team. What initially surprised me was how quickly Peter and his colleagues created such a close relationship with the team - one based on trust and respect. This produced the foundation for people to openly share themselves - their ideas, drivers, fears and doubts. Working with Courage and Spark has been an amazing journey and one that definitely exceeded my expectations.”

A combination of participation, disclosure, acceptance and compassion created a level of connection that drew the team into deeper spaces and greater harmony.

We discussed the implications of our team experience for different teams in the organisation. As a company, we’ve done plenty of this kind of thing in the past and looking back, it seemed like all the right things were done. We had away-days, team-building sessions, psychometrics, motivational speakers, dinners and drinks, but this is superficial compared with this process and does little to create connection and address fear, suspicion and competition.

I think it all starts with safety - psychological safety. That’s what determines the level of development and the depth of human connection and relationship that occurred. The coaches create a safe environment. It wasn’t that there was no anxiety, but everyone quickly moved towards
security, openness and respect”.

”Very interesting and useful, brilliant vehicle to take us forward. Lots of barriers broken down, everyone was open and honest, many things were said to each other which I don’t think would have been said prior to the process. It opened my eyes.
